The UWI Mona sends warm congratulations and is pleased to share the news that Professor Dale Webber has been appointed as Jamaica’s first Special Envoy for Climate Change, the Environment, matters of the Ocean, and the Blue Economy.

The United Nations University at the sitting of its Governance Council on December 7, 2024, in Tokyo, Japan, unanimously appointed Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, its new Chairman/Chancellor, effective May 2025.

On January 7, 1947, the governing body of the University College of the West Indies held its first meeting in Jamaica, paving the way for the establishment of The UWI's first campus at Mona. Just a year later, the campus welcomed its first class of 33 medical students.
