EARTHQUAKE ADVISORY

Dear Colleagues,
This morning, Friday, August 16, 2024, at 8:01 am EST, a moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 was felt across Jamaica. According to the Earthquake Unit at The University of the West Indies, Mona, the epicentre was located approximately 6 km northeast of Golden Spring, St. Andrew, at a depth of 27 km.
We are pleased to inform you that based on preliminary information, there are no reports of injury to any of our students and staff who were on the Campus at that time and there has been no structural damage to our facilities on the Mona Campus. Once you have accounted for your team members, it is safe to return to your respective offices.
As a precaution, the Estate Management Department (EMD) will conduct further inspections to ensure the continued safety of our buildings. Should you or your team members observe any unusual defects or is-sues within the facilities, please report them immediately to the EMD for prompt attention.
