
UWI 75th Book Club connecting young people with authors, motivational speakers
For the last 7 years Dr. Rebecca Tortello has served as the Education Specialist at UNICEF Jamaica. For the past 17 years, Dr. Tortello has regularly lectured at the University of the West Indies in the Department of Education and is the author of a number of articles on education.
Dr. Tortello has also worked with the Jamaican government as Senior Advisor/Consultant to the Minister of Education, directed the Spanish-Jamaican Foundation and served on numerous boards including the Early Childhood Commission and the Jamaica Commission for UNESCO, the Jamaica Library Service and the Institute of Jamaica. She currently serves on the National Commission for the Prevention of Violence (NPCV) and the National Education Transformation Oversight Committee (ETOC)
She holds a PhD in Education from Columbia University, a Masters in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Literature in 1991 from Harvard College.
Dr Tortello has written a popular Jamaican history book, “Pieces of the Past,” a number of children’s picture books and edited a number of early childhood teacher/workbook series used in schools across Jamaica.
