Dear Faculty/Staff and Students:
Your safety is our top priority. Below are some critical information regarding the
operation of our campus over the next 24-48 hours.
Due to the impending threat of Hurricane Beryl, the Mona campus will be closed on
Tuesday July 2, 2024 at 1pm and all day on Wednesday July 3, 2024. We will
continue to take directives from The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency
Management (ODPEM) to update all key stakeholders.
The entire Campus, including academic buildings, recreational facilities, and
administrative offices, will be closed on the above dates until further notice. Access
to the premises will be restricted for safety reasons. Please keep your emergency
contact information updated with the university. In case of any emergencies during
the closure period, you can reach out to the Chief Emergency Management Officer,
Major Clive Davis, at [email protected] or call (876) 970-6712or (876)
857-9913.
LIVING ARRANGEMENT IN HALLS OF RESIDENCE
All students who are Jamaican nationals are required to evacuate their Halls of
Residence by July 2, 2024. Consistent with our practice, The UWI Mona will take
responsibility for regional and international students who will be kept secure on
campus in their respective Halls of Residence. Please ensure you have all essential
belongings, important documents, food and any medications you may need while
residing in hall.
We will communicate further updates regarding the reopening of the Campus and
resumption of regular activities once it is safe to do so. Please monitor official
university communication channels such as email, website and social media for
updates. Students in Halls of Residence will receive information from SSDMs via
Whatsapp groups. Staff members will also receive communication from Deans and
Department heads as well.
PRIORITIZE YOUR SAFETY
The management of The UWI Mona Campus encourages everyone to prioritize their
safety and well-being during this period. Please extend support to those who may
need it, especially the elderly and most vulnerable. We appreciate your cooperation
and understanding.
Please stay safe and look out for your family and neighbours during this period
