On Tuesday, August 20, the University of the West Indies (The UWI) Mona kicked off Orientation welcoming more than 4,000 new students from all over the region and the world to the campus.
Themed UWI for You: The Rise of the Pelicans, this year's event promises to be an engaging and informative experience, packed with opportunities for students to connect with faculty, staff, and peers.
Students will converge at different locations on campus generally and according to their Faculty during the period to learn more about their new home away from home, meet their Deans, participate in campus tours and workshops among other activities.

Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of The UWI Mona, Professor Densil A Williams in welcoming the new students noted that, “It is my pleasure to welcome our new students who will join the prestigious UWI Mona community at a time when the campus is engaging in exciting transformational projects to enhance the teaching and learning experience.
“The campus will spend over JMD$100 million to provide opportunities for our students to improve their work-readiness and gain a competitive advantage in the job market. In addition, the orientation period will provide students with a plethora of activities to help them settle in their new home, build relationships and make life-long friends as they journey through the academic process. These experiences will be priceless and I encourage the students to make the most of their time during the Orientation period.”
RED Day
Among the many of activities planned by the Office of Student Services and Development is RED Day. RED Day will feature a wellness zone with the Jamaica Defence Force, a dynamic dance challenge, a spirited competition, a celebratory graduate cocktail, and an engaging digital treasure hunt. In addition, there will also be a competitive 6-a-side football match featuring students and senior administrators going head-to-head vying for the championship trophy.
