More than 3500 UWI Mona students to graduate in 5 2024 ceremonies over 3 days (Oct. 31 – Nov 2.)

More than 3500 students from the Class of 2024 will be conferred with degrees, diplomas, and certificates by The University of the West Indies (The UWI) as the Mona Campus hosts five (5) Graduation Ceremonies from October 31 to November 2, 2024. 

Commenting on the upcoming ceremonies, The UWI Mona Campus Registrar, Dr. Donovan Stanberry stated, “As our Pelicans celebrate this milestone, graduation stands as a tribute to their hard work, dedication, and the unwavering support of their loved ones. This Graduation period marks not just the end of an academic journey but the beginning of a new chapter filled with promise and purpose. The knowledge and skills honed at The UWI, a true cultural melting pot, have shaped them into individuals ready to make meaningful contributions to the region and the world. I am confident that their UWI experience will serve as a powerful foundation as they go forth to create positive change.” 
The Mona Campus will be hosting five ceremonies, over three (3) days. The families and friends of the Class of 2024 as well as the general public are invited to view the ceremony on UWITv Global www.uwitv.org  Flow EVO channel 130 (Jamaica) or social media via Facebook.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 31 AT 4 P.M.

On Thursday, October 31, 2024 at 4 P.M. students from the Faculty of Medical Sciences and Sport will be formally announced as graduates of The UWI.  The valedictorian addressing this ceremony will be Britney Hay who was awarded the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (First Class Honours). The University will also confer the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws (LLD) on Mr. Donald Anderson for his work as an Entrepreneur, Market Researcher and Sport Administrator.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2024 AT 10 A.M.
On Friday, November 1, 2024 at 10 A.M. students from the Faculty of Social Sciences (except MSBM) and the Institute of Gender and Development Studies will be formally announced as graduates of The UWI. The valedictorian addressing this ceremony will be Nathan Walker who was awarded the Bachelor of Science in Economics (First Class Honours).


FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2024 AT 4 P.M.
On the afternoon of Friday, November 1, 2024 at 4 P.M. students from the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Engineering will be formally announced as graduates of The UWI. The valedictorian addressing this ceremony will be Serene Shirley who was awarded the Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering (First Class Honours). At this Ceremony Dr. Conrad Douglas will be conferred with the Honorary Doctor of Laws for his contribution to the development of the Bauxite Industry.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2024 AT 10 A.M.
On Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 10 A.M., students from the Faculty of Humanities and Education and the Faculty of Law will be formally announced as graduates of The UWI. The valedictorian addressing this ceremony will be Candace Ramsay who was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Marketing Communication (First Class Honours). The University will also confer the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters (LLD) on Mr. Monty Blake for his pioneering work in music. 


SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2024 AT 4 P.M.
The final Ceremony will be hosted on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 4 P.M. where students from the Faculty of Social Sciences – Mona School of Business and Management only – will be officially announced as graduates of The UWI. The valedictorian addressing this ceremony will be Saran Ffrench who was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management (Second Class Honours – Upper Division).  At this ceremony the University will confer the Honorary Doctor of Laws on Mr. Courtney Campbell for his work as an Entrepreneur and Philanthropist. 

The UWI Honorary Degree
The UWI Honorary Degree is conferred on persons who have distinguished themselves by their substantial contribution to the development of the region and or the advancement of the University.  Individuals upon whom such a high honour has been bestowed are not referred to as “Doctor” but are entitled to use the abbreviated honorary degree behind his or her name.
